Somalisa Acacia Camp

We stayed at Somalisa Main Camp. We arrived to a dancing welcome after we stopped on our way in to see a Cheetah and her babies. Ronald was an amazing host, always dancing and upbeat! The camp was luxurious! Food was amazing the chef Philan never disappointed! I had fresh coffee delivered with my morning wake up knock at 5 am which was a nice way to get ready for the morning game drive. Our guide, Clement, was very knowledgeable. He made everything interesting. We laughed as he taught us about everything from dung beetles, to termite mounds to the pride of lions they have living near camp. The rooms were beautiful. There was both an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a copper claw footed tub. The guides that sat with us at meals, Armstrong and Albert, were so knowledgeable as well. Every evening Ronald would greet us dancing. I will miss the staff at Somalisa! I will be back though!! We saw so many animals for the off season as well.

Cecil was a lion who lived primarily in the Hwange National Park in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. He was a major attraction in the park and was being studied and tracked by a research team of the University of Oxford as part of a long-term study. After 7 long months of Covid-19 nervousness and strict social-distancing, my husband and I made the decision to return to the African bush. We chose Somalisa Camp for our 5 night stay and we couldn't have made a better choice! Everything, from the moment we arrived, until the moment of our departure, was absolute perfection! The manager on site during our stay was Ronald and he and the entire Somalisa team warmly welcomed us and made us feel completely at ease. Despite us being the only two gues... Despite us being the only two guests at the Lodge for most of our stay there, the Somalisa team compromised nothing and ensured we were given the full on Somalisa "royalty-treatment". All the staff wore masks the entire duration of our interactions with them; only one and the same attendant (Robert) carefully and spotlessly maintained our tent every day whilst we were there; all meals were "a la carte"; there are sanitising stations everywhere including outside each individual tent and on our game drives, our guide had separate snack serving boxes to our own - even for the most nervous of travellers, the Camp has really done everything it can to minimise risk of exposure both to guests and to it's own staff and we thoroughly commend your efforts. The entire Camp is beautifully and tastefully decorated, as are the tents, with fabulous views and every comfort one could wish for. There is a waterhole frequented by hordes of elephants just in front of the Camp's swimming pool deck area and guests are literally within touching distance of these magnificent animals - it is an absolute delight to watch them in this way. Our guide was Michael and my husband and I both feel that in 20 years of travelling the Zimbabwean bush toghether, we have never encountered a more knowledgeable guide. He afforded us many first-time opportunities and we are not "inexperienced" bush travellers. We saw lion on three different days, after Mike expertly tracked them! Thank you so much Mike - we will never forget the experiences we had with you! The chef on duty for our trip duration was Adam and he prepared absolutely wonderful meals for us, including a wonderful surprise bush breakfast. Needless to say, we gained about 5 kgs in 5 days! I also make special mention of Gloria, our serving attendant who expertly and pleasantly served us all our meals and drinks. Well done to all of you at Somalisa for running such an expert show - we will remember this trip forever and definitely intend to be back, we really feel like we made some fantastic friends there!
